At Megan Grace Photographs, every family session is an opportunity for me to capture the unique connection that you share. The fun, goofy moments you share and the sweet and silly moments of your kids being little are all worth freezing before they're gone. Recently, I had the privilege of photographing a family whose children have special needs. This family is SO SO sweet! We attend the same church, and it is always a party when we get to hang out. I knew their session would be full of goofy faces and laughs and that was so true.
This session was one of my fall minis, which means that we had 15 minutes for these photos. I knew that taking the time to help everyone feel comfortable by creating a fun and relaxed environment would bring out those personalities and beautiful connections this family has. Every child is unique whether they may have a disability or not. To begin the session and help the kids warm up, I like to start by chatting with them about their favorite things or what they like to do. We may play a little game, make goofy faces, or quietly sit for a moment, but this helps me build a connection with them, making it easier for them to feel comfortable showing more of their personality in front of the camera. These little moments can make a world of difference going into the session.
Throughout this session, we made LOTS of goofy faces. We made happy faces and played games. This session wasn't just about getting the "perfect" shot, it was about capturing this family during this stage of life. Every family has a story worth capturing and telling. Each session reminds me of that when I get to see the love and connection that they share. Its beautiful to see the connection that the George family has. Katie and Mike are so incredibly patient and loving towards each other and their kids. The bond and love they all have for one another is amazing.
If someone in your family has a disability or you are just not sure if your kid will cooperate for a photo session and are unsure of how it will go, it will be okay. We will work together and create beautiful photos you will be able to cherish for years and years to come. If you are in St. Louis and want some beautiful family photos, reach out! I would love to chat about how we can work together to create a session that works best for you. Every family deserves to have their story reflected in photos, no matter your needs, and I'm honored to help make it happen.
